Long Weekend

We’ve ben tentatively enjoying the long weekend here in QC. In that the OH took yesterday off so we could have four days of a mini holiday. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a holiday here today in the province. St. John Baptiste day or, as I like to think of it, Midsummer’s Day.

Saturday was an iffy day but still, we got out and about getting some last minute stuff bought for our mini break in Montreal next month. We even went out Sunday as a sale started at Bentley’s the Bag People, so we could buy two new mini valises (rollies to me and you). Then Monday, we’d planned to do a couple more things but … Mother Nature had other plans by 10 am it was almost 30 degrees. By 4pm it was a scorching 42.

We broke records.

Today started at 26 at 8am … TWENTY SIX! Are you serious Mother Nature?

It’s currently sitting at 38 degrees out there but, with the humidex factored in, it is again, approaching 40+ degrees. And yes, before you ask, we have the AC unit on, all the curtains are closed, and we’re trying to do as little as possible other than drink homemade lemonade. What’s worrying me is that we’ll have these kinds of ridiculously hot temperatures when in Montreal.

As a precaution, I’ve written up two schedules. One to take into account the possible heat and another as if it’s an ordinary summer (as if there is such a thing anymore.) That way we can make sure we do outdoor stuff first thing in the morning before the heat. And then, be inside AC cooled buildings spaces during the worst of the afternoons. Or even, back at the hotel in an AC environment.

Do museum have AC? I hope so. We have tickets booked.

So, how’s your week going?

  1. FORTY TWO IN QUEBEC CITY??? That is insane! Eeek! The humidity alone!
I’m sure the museums have AC but still, I sure hope the temperatures break for you!
I didn’t realize it was a long weekend there! It isn’t one here, and also, when you are kind of retired every weekend is a long weekend/ no weekend is a long weekend/ what even is a weekend.

    • I know, right? It’s just to ridiculous for words. They did say maybe tomorrow will be the last hottie and then, it’s supposed to cool off. But summers here are notorious for being unpredictable at the best of times.

Yeah, it’s weird how the 24th is a holiday here. Go figure. And yes, I know what you mean about weekends. What are even weekends anymore? Past a certain age, as you say, every day is a Sunday here.

  2. The weather is INSANE right now. I think it’s supposed to cool down – at least here in NS – tomorrow and we’ll have a few days of respite. I hope we get some rain, too. Hot stretches like this always make me so wary of forest fires 🙁

That is one good thing about museums on hot, days. They almost always have AC; usually too cold in my opinion, but it’s better than getting heat stroke.

I hope the weather cooperates in the end so you have an absolutely lovely time.

    • The same here. It’s at least 12 degrees cooler today and supposed to be cool over the weekend, but next week? Oh my, we’re back to 35+.

I’m really hoping the weather plays nice but, as I said, we’ve planned for every contingency. We even bought new lightweight raincoats that weigh ounces.

  3. That sounds way too hot. I hope it’ll cool down for you. We had a lovely cold snap, but now the temperatures are going to heat up again. I don’t do well with it.

    • I don’t think anyone other than a scorpion or lizards do well in the heat, Michelle. I miss a good old fashioned English summer where 18 was considered high.
