Publishing Platforms

As opposed to drilling, political or otherwise…

What I want to ask you all is: “Of the seemingly oodles of publishing platforms that are springing up all over the internet, what have you used (if any) and what do you recommend, or what is your opinion (if you have one) of: Smashwords, Lulu, Magcloud or Createspace?”

• Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/
• Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/
• Createspace: https://www.createspace.com/
• MagCloud: http://magcloud.com/

I’m about to use MagCloud to create and publish a magazine so as soon as I have gone through the process, I’ll offer my own feedback on that experience. But till then, I’m looking for yours.

Apple Joins The Dark Side

Amazon releases “Kindle” app for the Mac

Does this mean that Apple has entered into an unholy alliance with Amazon, who, because it will be the prime selling-base for Apple’s iPad e-book venture, has managed to wrangle Apple into also being its platform of choice, spreading the Kindle Gospel through-out the Mac universe? Hmm…one wonders.

If you go read what Media Bistro has to say, it would appear they are happily in love and supportive of the new Kindle App for the Mac. While, elsewhere in the tech universe…

“Online retail giant Amazon, has dished out the Mac version of its Kindle eBook reader software, in an attempt to tackle the threat poised by Apple’s soon-to-be-launched iPad tablet, which is being looked upon as the Kindle killer.”

Amazon, so looking to expand it’s market share, knowing that Kindle sales will dwindle the minute the iPad sales (available April 3rd in North America) begin to sufficiently rack up, is catching Mac users early with this free app, in order to bring them into the fold as customers as quickly as possible, by giving them, as they call it, the big screen reading experience.

What are your thoughts, if any, on Amazon’s move, and Apple joining hands with Amazon?
