Google Wave

“I’m sitting on top of the wave, just rolling along—”

Eh, okay, so maybe I’m not actually sitting on top of a wave, whether it’s a real wave, or a virtual one. But that’s beside the point, the amazingly talented author, Tonya R. Moore, kindly invited me to join her (and a lot of other writer-folk) over on Google’s new initiative: GOOGLE WAVE, which is kind of an experiment in progress. One where people are Beta Testing an invite-only, on-going series of conversations. Eh, if that makes any sense. No, I didn’t quite understand it at first either.

The whole point is for like-minded people to hook-up over on Google Wave to “converse” with one another (in real-time if they want) about, well, anything really. It just so happens the group I was invited to join (and I am sure there are a lot more) are a bunch of writers looking to support, promote, and generally talk about all aspects of writing.

Also, the Google Team (in their infinite wisdom) has blessed me with eight (8) yes, count them, eight, exceedingly rare and very hard to come-by invites!

So— leave a comment here on my blog, if you would like an invite.

H1N1 Vaccine

The saying goes prevention is better than cure. Well, that may as well be true, in most cases, but sometimes I do wonder. And what, may you ask, am I mumbling about today? I’m talking about my weekend adventure to be vaccinated against the H1N1 (Swine flu) virus.

More specifically, I’m talking about the fact that, after queuing for almost two hours this Saturday (in what was a very volatile crowd of the over-50s hell-bent on lynching anyone who didn’t give them one of these magical coupons) I finally was given said coveted coupon. Yes. A coupon. A time stamped, and dated, expensively printed four-colour coupon that was my ticket to being allowed the H1N1 vaccine.

A coupon that meant I could return to the University building on Sunday afternoon, at 2 p.m. (along with any number of that volatile over-50s group) and could (once again) queue with the best of them. Queue for another 30 minutes before I had to fill out three forms that certified, yes, I was most certainly a resident, over 50 and also diabetic, before being allowed to—

Yes, you guessed it. Queue all over again.

This time, thankfully, we were herded into yet another much shorter queue and I finally got the H1N1 vaccine from, strangely enough, a very jovial, convivial nurse sporting a painted face and several colourful stickers. I wasn’t sure if I should laugh, snicker, or be worried!

So, I hear you ask, was all this standing around for a prick in the arm worth it? Hmm…ask me that again later this week when I stop feeling under the weather and I might say, yes.

Now, can anyone tell me, what the hell happened to Monday?

Salt

As a big Angelina Jolie fan, I so want to see ‘Salt’, her new movie, coming out next summer:
